Indies in the Spotlight

TORONTO, Feb. 5 /CNW/ – The artists and bands have been selected! inDiscover.net is proud to reveal the nominees for the 9th Annual Independent Music Awards, “The Indies.” The event will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto. The Indies acknowledge, promote and honour achievements of Canadian and international artists in the independent music sector. Tickets for this event can be purchased for $35, at www.cmw.net or by calling 905.858.4747. This year’s host will be Canadian comedian Jon Lajoie with performances by the Arkells, Beast, Crystal Castles, Hey Rosetta!, USS, and Indies Hall of Fame inductees Anvil. JUNO who’s nominated?

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced the 2009 JUNO Awards nominees on Feb. 3rd in Toronto. Winners will be announced at the JUNO Gala Dinner & Awards on Saturday, March 28th, and the awards show will be broadcast on CTV on Sunday, March 29 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, BC.

Canada ROCKS the GRAMMYs

TORONTO, Feb. 2 /CNW/ – SIRIUS Canada, the country’s leading satellite radio company, today announced it will broadcast Canadian Blast(R) – a live concert event celebrating Canadian music excellence on the occasion of the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards(R). The concert, part of The Consul General of Canada’s Showcase and Celebration of Canadian Music Excellence will be held at the Official Residence for Canada in Los Angeles on February 5, 2009 during GRAMMY(R) Week and includes recognition of this year’s 12 Canadian GRAMMY nominees as well as the additional 4 nominations with a Canadian connection.

Hosted by SIRIUS Canada / CBC Radio 3’s Grant Lawrence, the Canadian Blast concert broadcast will feature live performances by emerging Canadian musicians Jenn Grant, Plants & Animals, and Shad, and will honour Canadian artists nominated for the 2009 GRAMMY Awards. The exclusive broadcast will air live on SIRIUS Satellite Radio’s CBC Radio 3 channel 86 at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday February 5, 2009.

“We are incredibly proud of the Canadian artists nominated for the 2009 GRAMMY Awards and are honoured to host Canadian Blast in partnership with SIRIUS Canada,” said Mr. David Fransen, the Canadian Consul General in L.A. “An excellent opportunity to showcase the Canadian music industry’s achievements, the live broadcast on SIRIUS Satellite Radio will allow listeners to participate in the celebration.”

“It is a top priority for SIRIUS Canada to provide emerging and independent musicians with support and opportunities to increase their fan base in North America,” said Andreanne Sasseville, Director of Canadian Content Development and Industry Relations, SIRIUS Canada. “We are thrilled to support Canadian Blast and to give these exciting Canadian artists exposure to SIRIUS listeners throughout Canada and the U.S.”

Launched in December 2005, SIRIUS Canada continues to help emerging Canadian musicians grow their audiences in Canada and the United States. SIRIUS Canada promotes Canadian artists via direct sponsorship activities, music industry showcases and live broadcasts featuring Canadian talent.
