Coldplay and Beastie Boys at OSHEAGA 2009!

MONTREAL, March 31 /CNW Telbec/ – Gillett Entertainment Group presents the 4th edition of the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival that will take place in the park on August 1st and 2nd. Osheaga is proud to announce that the headliners for this year’s edition are the multi-platinum selling band Coldplay on Saturday, August 1st and hip-hop pioneers Beastie Boys on Sunday, August 2nd.

Osheaga is one of only two North American festival appearances that Coldplay will make this year. 2008 Grammy Award winners Coldplay continue to take the world by storm while touring on the wings of their high-soaring album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends which included a visit to a sold out Bell Centre on July 20th. We are extremely happy to welcome them to the Osheaga grounds on August 1st!

The Beastie Boys will bring their one of a kind lyrical and musical wizardry to headline Osheaga’s second day on the island Sunday, August 2nd. Montreal fans got their last dose of the Beasties’ funk at the Metropolis and at the Bell Centre on back-to-back nights in September 2007. Don’t miss these musical trailblazers rock Osheaga as they tear through over 25 years of hits!

“Next Big Thing”??

Posted by bigincanada on March 29, 2009

You tell me…

From http://soundcloud.com/frontside/black-and-white-lies-radio-edit:

“It’s O.K. if this is the first you’re hearing of Desperate Union, as their ascent has been a rapid one. Essentially it’s a fairy tale rock n’ roll story of an incredibly talented young band (they’re all under 18 years old) being discovered by Grammy nominated super-producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Three Doors Down, Finger Eleven, Staind, Plain White T’s, and many more) and taken under his wing.

Not surprisingly, a band that had shown lots of promise has now turned the corner to become a much talked about ‘next big thing.’

The band has a series of shows coming up, a myspace following of over 150,000, an EP on iTunes and much more on the plate as they’ve just signed with a soon-to-be named very prominent booking agent in Los Angeles. Combine that with a chance meeting with Gene Simmons parlaying into a performance at an upcoming event he’s holding and well, things are underway.

The video will be completed in a few weeks time to give you a better look at the band, but until then, please enjoy their first straight ahead rock single “Black And White Lies”!

GRAMMY museum named after Pierre Cossette

Posted by bigincanada on February 8, 2009

For those unfamiliar with Pierre Cossette, he is the Canadian mastermind who transformed the Grammy Awards into a monstrously-successful awards show and solidified its importance in the music industry. In his honor, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, CA was recently renamed the Pierre Cossette Grammy Museum Complex. For more information about Cossette, the Grammy Awards, and the Pierre Cossette Grammy Museum Complex, I recommend reading the following articles from The Canadian Press and The Desert Sun.
