TORONTO, Feb. 2 /CNW/ – SIRIUS Canada, the country’s leading satellite radio company, today announced it will broadcast Canadian Blast(R) – a live concert event celebrating Canadian music excellence on the occasion of the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards(R). The concert, part of The Consul General of Canada’s Showcase and Celebration of Canadian Music Excellence will be held at the Official Residence for Canada in Los Angeles on February 5, 2009 during GRAMMY(R) Week and includes recognition of this year’s 12 Canadian GRAMMY nominees as well as the additional 4 nominations with a Canadian connection.

Hosted by SIRIUS Canada / CBC Radio 3’s Grant Lawrence, the Canadian Blast concert broadcast will feature live performances by emerging Canadian musicians Jenn Grant, Plants & Animals, and Shad, and will honour Canadian artists nominated for the 2009 GRAMMY Awards. The exclusive broadcast will air live on SIRIUS Satellite Radio’s CBC Radio 3 channel 86 at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday February 5, 2009.

“We are incredibly proud of the Canadian artists nominated for the 2009 GRAMMY Awards and are honoured to host Canadian Blast in partnership with SIRIUS Canada,” said Mr. David Fransen, the Canadian Consul General in L.A. “An excellent opportunity to showcase the Canadian music industry’s achievements, the live broadcast on SIRIUS Satellite Radio will allow listeners to participate in the celebration.”

Launched in December 2005, SIRIUS Canada continues to help emerging Canadian musicians grow their audiences in Canada and the United States. SIRIUS Canada promotes Canadian artists via direct sponsorship activities, music industry showcases and live broadcasts featuring Canadian talent.
