Just two weeks ago, Canada celebrated the best in the music industry and subsequently rushed to stores and online outlets to support their favourite Canadian artists. Data from Nielsen SoundScan confirms significant sales spikes following the broadcast for the following headlining performers:

CTV’s two-hour broadcast of THE 2009 JUNO AWARDS attracted an average audience of 1.23 million viewers, and pulled in more viewers from 9-11 p.m. than any other broadcaster, with total viewers Additionally, more than 4 million viewers watched part of the show, which was broadcast in High Definition and 5.1 Surround Sound from General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia. The audience compares to the broadcast of Canada’s Music Awards in 2005 (1.217 million) and 2006 (1.225 million) on CTV.

THE 2009 JUNO AWARDS was jam-packed with performances by 18 different artists, and was hosted for the second year in a row by comic sensation Russell Peters who wowed audiences with a colourful and riotous Bollywood act and opening monologue.

Multiple JUNO Award winners Nickelback kicked off the show performing “Something in Your Mouth” amid a sizzling pyrotechnical display. Other highlights included Songwriter of the Year Dallas Green teaming up with special surprise guest Gord Downie for a beautiful performance of “Sleeping Sickness” while Canadian music icon Bryan Adams sang “Walk on By” accompanied by Kathleen Edwards on violin.

Inward Eye release debut EP

Posted by bigincanada on February 1, 2009

TORONTO, Jan. 27 /CNW/ – Winnipeg Manitoba rockers Inward Eye [released] their debut EP in Canada on January 27th, 2009. The EP [is] available at all music retailers and on-line.

With a sound reminiscent of The Jam, The Kinks, The Clash and The Who, and hailed by critics as “the next big thing”, the brothers Erickson, Dave (vocals/bass), Kyle (guitar/vocals), and Anders (drums), deliver this highly anticipated EP to satiate their rabid and ever-increasing fan base.

Recorded at producer Arnold Lanni’s (Simple Plan, Finger Eleven, Our Lady Peace) studio in Temecula, California the boys took the lessons learned from logging ungodly long trips in their van, criss-crossing the continent on tour, and put them to the test in the studio. The result of their labours is the Inward Eye EP rife with powerful anthems that crackle with bratty energy and recall the swinging riffs, shouted chants, and raw-nerve rock of their favourite bands. The lead off track “Shame” was serviced to Canadian rock and modern rock radio stations on January 19th, 2009. “Shame” started as a straight-up guitar riff and morphed into a snotty shuffle with yelped vocals. “It was too high for me to sing in a regular voice,” explains Dave. “It sounded like the theme to Psycho. We were like, that can be a hook! Lyrically, I felt like there was a lot of problems around me, and a lack of justice.” The Video for “Shame” is set for an early February delivery and was created by renowned animation specialist Rémy M. Larochelle.

At the heart of Inward Eye is their live show that wins over audiences every time they play. With Anders’ manic drum fills, Kyle’s guitar outbursts, and Dave’s command of the audience, Inward Eye is bringing back a fun spontaneity to rock shows. Choice slots on the 2007 Warped Tour and a breakout show at Lollapalooza 2007 added to the band’s climbing momentum culminating with an opening slot for the North American tour of their idols – The Who in late 2008. Although a full compliment of Canadian tour dates is in the works be sure to catch Inward Eye opening for Mobile on the following dates:
